WHISTLE BLOWER even now i hear the whistle clear as the night clear as the night a whistle blower on the river that’s good to know but beats me why you seem to be picking on a species like me endangered as the honey bee and just as deadly deadly ask me you’re the dangerous one picking any reason under the sun why you’re gonna have to move us on oh come on, like you’ve never put one foot wrong oh give over i don’t like you whistle blower I said give over i don’t like you whistle blower Cause you’ve been letting off steam off steam since I was fifteen fifteen and healthy as a runner bean and full of pipe dreams pipe dreams now i can tell that you know as well as me as you bundle me into the backseat of your jeep, white as a sheet that you learn to cheat when your ends don’t meet so pull over I don’t like you whistle blower i said pull over whistle blower and i’ll tell you now what i told the police this is my home and where my baby sleeps so if you want me to up and leave you’ll have to make me, make me and you kno i heard you say you’d house us all up if you could which goes to prove you just bad news that sounds good see our dying art of broken parts yeah it can sing and dance and sure enough it is the greed the greed that leaves you feeling empty empty once you’ve bitten off more than you need that hunger is less and less easy to please so come on and chase me the whole world over like i’m just here for you to walk all over yeah I said you’re nothing but a big bulldozer and i don’t like you whistle blower

Jonas' Song 04:38
JONAS’ SONG i’ve woken this morning to find that i am older that time has folded inwards that its happened without warning but who am i to speak of lifetimes of years you’ll never own you are after all another perfect chance that i have blown oh remember how the wind blew as i swam you out to sea i was always wild and you the spit of me and for a flash in that ocean we were vessle and daughter me floating on my back to keep your head above the water but i forget happy memories ones i have not earned and focus to remember how the tables now have turned and i seek your reassurance when its dark and i’m alone that i was only young i couldn’t do it on my own that i was only looking forwards cause now i’m not so sure i want the future that i traded you in for this is your mother speaking this is her voice that strange vibration that muffled noise that told you jokes on car rides that whispered in the sea that sang as you were sleeping in the quietest part of me before i walked you through a doorway where i was asked to explain that this was my first time that we were afraid and i was asked to lay us down upon a bed already made knowing one of us would come around only one is saved and you let me live that day and i’m not ungrateful but sometimes late at night i don’t feel saved at all i don’t feel saved at all.

MY RIVERS AND ME we've got places to be my rivers and me we've got places to be my rivers and me we've got silences to fill and fingers to slip through moments to get swept up in and decisions to rush into and for what? just give it a shot you gotta give it your all gotta give it your lot reciprocated or not. and you know sometimes we disagree my rivers and me i once thought i had the sea lie in his bed next to me but it was all just a phase he was just caught up in a wave i was sorry, you know, watching him go still you don't stick your oar in if you're not gonna row oh take me to the pea green sea where nobody is heavy and you can dive if you like see Gravity in the pea green sea nobody is heavy so you can use all your might but we’ll be free my rivers and me and i remember when we we thought you and me might be riding the river that would lead to the sea but the green of the weed would not let us pass so we threw down our oars and abandoned our raft and since its like i've just been treading water seems every good kiss some how has me cornered and she says the weeds are all in my head yeah she says the weeds are all in my head and maybe she’s right and i grow little by little i mean every river started off a trickle oh take me to the pea green sea where nobody is heavy and you can dive if you like see Gravity in the pea green sea nobody is heavy so you can use all your might but we’ll be free my rivers and me so if you want to swim you've gotta come on in oh believe me you don't wanna be stranded well then don't just stand there cause believe me when i say just look at the sea licking the shore letting us know that she’s hungry for more oh take me to the pea green sea where nobody is heavy and you can dive if you like see Gravity in the pea green sea nobody is heavy so you can use all your might but we’ll be free my rivers and me and if there is no sea at my journeys end if round every river corner there’s another river bend the i turn to my current plugging away i turn to my whirlpools to my eddies and say hey you! why the commotion? didn't they teach you? there's more than one ocean

EVERYONE’S A TIME BOMB i’ve been spending time with a friend of mine peeping through a tunnel thirsty in the face he speaks to me of space like you could pour it through a funnel and he’s on the money he’s on the money and he’s always telling me something about how the treasure is real how it makes you feel like living is the one thing you can die from i mean everyone’s a time bomb so with no time to waste i’m hot on the case i’m digging through the rubble earth to shovel this is your captain speaking mental as a puzzle but i’m on the money i’m on the money ‘cause i’m always searching for something for a sign that the treasure is real for a sign that it’s living and it’s the one thing you can die from that everyone’s a time bomb yeah you can fall down drunk you can fall down hurt but all the while time is throwing on the dirt so keep moving or be buried oh ground control i’ve dug myself a whole now i’m broken broke and drowning but better off than many i’m hopeful as a penny thrown into a fountain so i’m on the money and yeah we’re on the money ‘cause if you’re always wishing on something then who cares if the treasure is real whatever makes you feel like living is the one thing you can die from i mean everyone’s a time bomb so keep moving or be buried

about

'Earth to Shovel' is the first volume in a new and of course highly original collection from folk musician Ruth Theodore. Tearing around the guitar with hobnail boots and a brass slide, this time Ruth is backed by barber-shop vocals and plenty of rhythm. Recorded live in the River Rat Records studio on board a boat, expect stamping feet, birds, and the sound of people making music.
